Tried it for the first time a few days ago on Mac and connected via USB to it (had to use some generic Epson driver as it seems there aren't proper ones on Mac) it is detected correctly etc but prints blank pages.
With my other Windows laptop it prints fine so it's not a hardware problem with the printer. Any idea what the problem is? I am guessing the driver but not sure.

Which printer? Which Mac OS?
Epson's Mac support is normally very good. When you say "some generic one" do you mean the Mac's built in basic printer support or one provided by Epson?
Are you looking for high end photo quality or just basic graphics? There is an open source, very high quality, printer driver project called Gutenprint which can sometimes be used with older printers that are no longer officially supported.0 -

The printer is an Epson XP-235. I am using Mac OS Sierra. The printer is pretty new though. I bought it at the end of 2016 but looking at the Epson website I think they don't have a driver for Mac OS for this particular model.
Yes, it was one of the drivers suggested by the system. I don't print often and usually in black and white so not looking for anything high-end.0 -

I have used a similar printer (XP-322) with El Capitain without problem. Also a more elaborate XP-700.
From a quick look on Epson's site there seems to be a Mac driver. OK, obviously predates Sierra but maybe worth a try....

Also have a look n the FAQ tab about installing Mac drivers.0
