Credit report search not me

This is a bit of a strange one and can't find a previous thread that's had the same issue.
Basically I requested a copy of my report from Equifax and found everything was good except for one issue:
There was a credit search carried out two weeks ago by Virgin Media Group, but this is listed under an address I moved out of two years ago and by someone with a completely different name - talking not even similar in any way.
I've called equifax who've raised it as a dispute with Virgin Media but they weren't too helpful in explaining how on earth Virgin have come to check my credit report for this fella I don't know.
Is there anything I can do to prevent any further searches for credit appearing on my account (that aren't in relation to me)? I did have broadband with virgin when I lived there but that account came with us when we moved address and I now have no accounts with Virgin whatsoever.
He is not listed as a financial associate thankfully, and It's been nearly a year since i've searched for credit personally, but i'm looking at applying for a mortgage soon so could do without random blokes searching my credit file
