Paypal - Guest Payments

Haven't been able to find a recent thread on this, and wondered if anyone can help.

I need to receive a payment from someone who doesn't have a Paypal account (ie who has to make a payment as a guest) - and I need to tell them how to do it!

I only have a personal account, and Paypal is telling me that the only way I can receive a payment is by getting the person concerned to open their own account. This isn't going to happen.

Does anyone know if this paying as a guest is possible for this, and how it works?

Guest payments seems to mean something different to what you (and probably I) would understand, I don't think it is possible to make a payment without having an account.

It only appears to be possible if you're a merchant selling a product (or an eBay seller), rather than just someone sending money from one account to the other.

Why not just use a bank transfer?

    Thanks for the answers.

Yes, agrinall, I have been coming to that conclusion too, although I have replied to Paypal and asked them to confirm it.

This would be ideal, and I think (hope) they will arrange to do so. I did get one payment made to me a couple of years ago, from another person, but that person may well have had a Paypal account - I didn't ask.
I have had payments from people via ebay, when I have put odd items up for sale (I don't sell there as a business), so wondered if it would be possible to get paid through Paypal for something not via ebay.

Yes, it's very possible, I do it occasionally, but both parties to the transaction have to have a Paypal account.
