Hotel Angela Fuengirola- Road works noise

At the Hotel Angela in Fuengirola and huge road works have suddenly sprung up in the road outside which are incredibly noisy with heavy machinery including diggers. The main entrance to the hotel is inaccessible and closed and you now have to enter by a side entrance. The road works are meant to continue for over a month. The Thomson representative is not interested as we asked to be moved as it will spoilt the the last 10 days of our holiday. They must have known the roadworks were due but did not advise us before departure, it will interesting to see now they have started, whether they warn customers, who have booked, of the noise and offer them a refund or alternative accommodation. We will take up with Thomsons on our return requesting some compensation, but battling against a giant company we anticipate resistance. We would much prefer to have a quite holiday and be moved rather than get money as compensation. If anyone is booked at the Hotel Angela and are arriving before the end of March it might might advisable to contact Thomsons now.

  • Any major road works must be known in advance. Thomson's probably knew but chose to keep it quiet. Make sure you take photographs and other guests details to back up your case when you return. What is Hotel Angela's response . Have they offered to move you to the other side of the hotel away from the noise. Yes it would be interesting to know if Thomson's are now contacting guests arriving in the next month offering them alternatives.Good Luck.
  • That is very disturbing news we are due to arrive there in mid March. Is there a date when the roadworks are due to finish. If not legally would we have the option to move hotels of the same standard without any additional costs. We are travelling on Thomson package holiday.

I'm unsure how to take this. The hotel and Thomson have no control over the roadworks, its just part and parcel of being in a city. I'd expect them to accommodate a change of room - if they have availability, but refunds or change of rooms will be beyond the remit of the hotel certainly.

When in NYC, a building opposite was being built and construction noise started at 7 am everyday, their lights never turned off. Earplugs worked a treat!

Any updates on this? Just found out that a neighbour is going there (again) in a week or so. They rung the travel agents who 'said' something about the work finishing on the 19th (a sunday!) but does anyone know better?

Clever - they haven't said which month!
Not worrying yet as not going until August.
  • We are due to arrive on 23rd March. We have been in contact with the Angela hotel who confirm the main entrance to the hotel is closed. They hope the road works will be finished in 2 weeks but can offer no guarantee, as they can over run.Thomson holidays don't see to want to know. If you read the Fuengirola forum on Trip Advisor there are lots of posts on this issue.we are quite concerned about the disruption and noise but there seems there is very little we can do about it.

We understand from friends currently in Fuengirola that the roadworks are still in "Full Swing" and the noise has got considerably worse. Nobody seems to know what is the scheduled finish date but April has been mentioned in a rumour. It is not a good time to stay at the Hotel Angela.

We can confirm when we left on Thursday the road work are still in full and the main entrance the Hotel Angela is closed entry is at the side via the cafe. The noise is at times was horrendous starting at 8 o'clock sharp in the morning. It certainly considerably impact on our holiday whilst was spoilt by the noise. We heard they may continue in some form until mid April. We hope future guests don't suffer like us. In our view it is scandalous that Thomson holidays are continuing to send guest there whilst the roadworks are ongoing. There is little the hotel itself can do about it, so if you are booked contact Thomson holidays prior to departure and if the noise will worry you request alternative accommodation in Fuengirola.
