O/S Daily Wednesday 22 February 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, but very blustery and cooler than it has been, heating gone back on.
DH up and now leaving for work, DS1 & DS2 still in their pits, I'll wake DS2 shortly so he can get ready for college.
Dinner last night was potato dauphinoise (sp?), bacon tart, scallop in a shell and baked flat mushroom - I loved all of it, DH wasn't sure about the scallop, so I ate his. Tonight we have pork steaks, mash, veg and gravy and trifle for dessert (I need to make the blancmange for it shortly, so it can set in the fridge during today,) then I'll put the cream on the top tonight.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I took 6 bags of rubbish to the recycling centre, and also took the crutches I was given when I broke my foot back to local hospital - that was ages ago but no-one ever said anything about taking them back after I'd recovered, so went to the local minor injuries clinic and asked them where to take them and they asked if I got them from there, which I did so they took them, got majority of the porch tidied, what we need to keep is now all tidy in the storage boxes back in the shelving unit in the porch, it looks so much better, and there's loads more room, there's just a few tools left on the dining room table that I wanted DH to look at and decide where they need to be. I also did some baking - I decided to make a Victoria sponge, I wasn't concentrating and didn't mix it like I normally would and the result was a sponge like a pancake but way too heavy and 1 half wasn't combined properly so it was a disaster, pre O/S days I would have just thrown it all in the bin, but I did throw the worse bits away but then decided to use the edible bits for sponge in the bottom of the trifle - that's now sitting in the bottom of the fridge waiting for whipped cream to be put on the top when I get home from work tonight. I also made the other half of the sponge, (not my best but edible) into a Victoria sponge by cutting it in half and making half a sponge (IYSWIM), I also made a tea loaf - so all in all a reasonably productive day. I'm back to work today - and working the extra hours this afternoon, then on days' off but working Saturday morning.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
Thank you nmlc for starting the thread. I have been up for a few hours as I am very anxious about going to the dentist today. I am really hoping everything goes smoothly and we actually get there this time. I am making sure I take a coat and have my phone charged up this time as well.
Hubby has just left for work and the girls are still in bed for the moment. I am going back to bed for a few hours once the girls have left for school. We still have no hot water or heating and will not for the foreseeable future as the woman from the HA came yesterday and said that we won't be able to have the new boiler in the same place as the old one so they will have to rip out a cupboard in the kitchen and fit it there. The problem with that is there is a lintel running through the wall as there used to be a window there that the builders blocked off when they fitted our new kitchen a few years ago. I am seriously stressed about having workmen in the house again and was quite teary last night.
I am not sure what to cook for tea tonight as I don't know when I am going to be back from the hospital. The girls will fend for themselves so it is just me and hubby to feed. I have freezers full of food so I think it's going to be an 'open the box' meal with chips done in the actifry.
Well I had better go and get the girls up as there is no movement from upstairs. I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Not sure what today will chuck at me but I'm ready for action.. Well I will be when I get out of bed.:D
Hubby and Youngest sounded like a heard of elephants crashing round this morning before they left for work. Youngest has left a trail of dried mud off his shoes behind him.
Onwards and forwards

Morning, I have been woken by the howling wind, I think it is dying down now.
I'll be off to work in a bit, so really do need to get my bum in gear.
Judi, I've been thinking about your difficulties with your prodigal and although I have nothing really helpful to say, I do feel for you, it must be so hard for you.
Dumpling, good luck at the dentist.
I must get going, so hope that everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
The weather is quite calm compared to last night, torrential rain and a sideways wind.
Met a friend for a chat and a curry after work, good to catch up and the food was excellent. I ate so much I fell asleep around 8.30!
Anyway, not much happening here, I'm going to DDs after work to do some more painting, need to squeeze in a few hours as I'm away this weekend.
Hope all's well in your lives, take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. Hope today goes better than the last hospital visit, when you never got there, DUMPLING. I can't happen twice so I hope all goes well.
Yesterday was a day of two halves in Skipton. Mild, sunny and springlike in the morning. The barges on the canal were out in force, with people enjoying the short scenic cruises up and down the canal in the sunshine. Then down came the rain and it turned so cold with it. Scuttled off to 'Spoons and lucky to get a table next to the fire. Lovely! The wind and rain continued into the night but all is calm this morning (for now!) Tomorrow's forecast is horrendous.
Because of tomorrow's hospital appt our shopping day is being brought forward to today. Yet to compile a list but I don't think we need a great deal. I'll get away with just Aldi again and maybe a quick foray into Iceland next door for one or two oddments. I have managed to avoid the Sainsbobs top-up shop with silly prices for weeks now.
Another no cooking day today. (Will this diet ever get off the ground!) Going to the carvery for tea with DD and the DGDs. They are going after the cinema, which we are passing on, and meeting them there. So just a snack at lunchtime to keep us going.
Have a good day all and (HUGS) for the poorlies, worried and sad who need/want one. LW well done and hope the new medication helps with your pain. JUDI my heart goes out to you. We've had our ups and downs with our two over the years but never had to cope with drugs. A friend supported her DD's withdrawal from heroine and lived through hell with her lies and stealing before she finally got through it.
Have a good day all whatever you are up to xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Hugs to Judi, Dumpling and any one else in need.
Off to work in a sec, it will either be very quiet or very stressful as I have no paper left, it was ordered 2 weeks ago, but the order wasn't agreed by those higher up the food chain!
Dance class y'day and both girls had a great time.
Parents evening tonight so I'm babysitting.
Have a great day everyone.

I think the key where substance abuse is not to let your heart rule your head. Addiction holds no prisoners. He's addicted to something. I don't know what. He cares only for himself. Within an hour of him waking up yesterday he was out the door. He took the bus fare I gave him and asked for a bit more...yeah right! He'd got the shakes even then. I haven't seen him since. I guess he didn't like the rules that was set before him.
No booze (makes him aggressive)
No drugs (makes him wildly unpredictable and leaves him with black moods).
Has a regular shower....and whilst he is here gives me his clothes to wash
If he complied with the rules he would have been helped back on his feet.
Those rules also apply to my youngest. He accepts them though he doesn't take things to the extreme.
My concern is for my safety. He is wildly unpredictable. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning everyone.
The weather yesterday was horrendous, driving rain all day and gale like winds. It calmed down over night but the winds are back.
I'm working for two hours this morning, will do a little shopping on the way back home and then get stuck into paperwork. The decorator is a choccy cake fan so I want to make some brownies for her.
Keep warm everyone, hope you're all safe from storms.

Morning :hello:
dumpling Your sausage story made me laugh! When the oven timer goes off, Scampi runs to the kitchen and sits in front of the oven door, lol.
Nels All the paperwork we had when we adopted Scampi said Jack Russell. But he's way too big for that, so I thought Parsons (which is basically a large Jack Russell). But he's a bit bigger than that too, and his face is a slightly different shape. I've asked many people what they think and have decided he's Parsons with a little bit of border collie in there somewhere
tiredmum I threw my clicker away, it didn't take long for him to learn but then he decided it was boring and started ignoring it
nannywindow I hope you feel better soon xx
candygirl I've been a member of that FB group for a while, I've only posted once but spend a lot of time reading it
caronc I'm glad pooch is OK! x
LameWolf I'm glad your meds are sorted x
I was going to do a bit of sanding yesterday, but when I started the dust set off a coughing fit (my cold is still hanging on a bit). I tried again a while later but the same thing happened, so I gave up. When mr tru came home he moaned that I hadn't done it. Really moaned, then complained that I was 'sat on my !!!' while he did all the work. So I decided to do exactly what he said I'd been doing, and sat down for rest of the evening. He had to lock the chickens away, fill up Scampi's food and water bowls, wash up, etc. All the little jobs which go unnoticed when I do them, but are suddenly a big deal when he has to do them. He went quiet after that, which is just as well because I didn't (and still don't) want to talk to him.
Work this morning, then a bit of housework. I'll hoover the lounge, bit pointless really because it'll get messy again later but I can't stand walking on floors with bits on them, lol. I'll put a lasagne in the oven then take Scampi out, when we get back miss tru should be back from work and we'll have our usual wednesday long lunch
dumpling good luck at the dentist today x

Morning all
Seems a bit windier here and some rain due I think tomorrow is heavy wind all day.
Off to work for me its been busy this week as its our half term but today the weather might put people off.
Got a phone call yesterday from the garage re my new car, they have asked me to go and do the paperwork on Saturday and I said yes no problem as it will give me a chance to see the car before I pick it up, oh no said the bloke, the car is not here its on our compound, well I am not coming and paying for it without seeing it !! there could be anything wrong with it !! So he is arranging to have it bought over to the showroom for me, does he seriously think I would pay for a car without seeing it
Jacket spuds for dinner with some leftover chilli from last night, OH is off with the dreaded cold again so he can put them in the oven.
Right better get on have good days all xx0
