Supplier Charging for Energy Not Consumed

They might not be forthcoming because of the way you are dealing with them. If you invite comment and opinion you have to accept them for what they are, even if they don't agree with the way you see things.wolfysmith wrote: »Any other comments?
From what you've written this seems like a non-issue to me. More accurately; it was a *big* issue for you but I think that is more to do with your attitude towards the organisations involved, perhaps as a result of letting emotion get in the way of pragmatism. I think you would have been unhappy no matter the outcome.
Just my 2p worth (and probably overpriced at that!).0 -
BrewerDave - you could be right.
Tux900 - you cold be right too.
...but when something like this happens you need to find out.0 -
Am I late to the party?
Damn, all the cocktail sausages are gone......
Is all this because of a mismatching opening/closing reading resulting a £20 overcharge?!?
From what I can gather...... on a super skim read......the whole process was bogged down and delayed on repeated occasions because you seemed to be perusing "other outstanding issues" of which you have not yet divulged.
Each time the £20 was offered, it seems you refused it because of these "other outstanding issues". I do not see why an energy company would not immediately amend a very simple error. Unless the process had been frustrated in some way and I have a feeling that may have been the case in your situation.
p.s I assume you mean outstanding as in not resolved rather than excellent.

You need to read & digest versus super skim read...the £20 was requested many times, part of an offer to pursue by the Ombudsman... it was offered only once before being retrieved by me.....there are issues outstanding which are highlighted in RED
The Ombudsman offer (the only offer before I retrieved) did not include resolution of the other issues so I couldn't accept its offer. I went back to the Supplier and retrieved the £20 after 3 more attempts. I am now pursuing the other issues.
I agree with you, why didn't the Supplier refund £20 rather than deliberately withheld the money from the start .... no frustration of the process on my part.... no error on its part...... it just did its own thing on meter read then refused to refund when I pointed it out. When someone takes £20 off you and doesn't give it back I suspect that many of those who have commented to date will just let it happen. I just don't get it...... Remember, it was a recently widowed lady, little income, disabled and not savvy with energy and switching.
Thanks for the comments.0 -
The supplier, Ombudsman did not resolve this issue. OFGEM is looking into the issues. In the meantime, keep the comments coming.0

Please update the forum when you have something specific from OFGEM.
From the comments already made it appears you are on your own with this issue.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Did you graciously choose to pay the new supplier £10 of the £20 you got from the old supplier ?
I assume you got around £10 worth of energy free at the new supplier price in the end ?
You highlighted a 50% switch saving.0 -

I will share OFGEM if and when I get some conclusion.
There are 6,000,000 switchers and circa 1300 forum reviews to date. If all the reviewers were switchers then only 0.02% read the story. There are still a large number of people potentially affected.

Not sure why you deduced that the customer was on the make and also gained £10 free energy, you have misread the post.
The supplier was unlawfully on the make until the problem was rectified. When the supplier finally paid up what it owed then everyone was quits. The only person to lose out for a period of almost 12 months was the customer. The customer was paying the new supplier the correct amount based on usage from day 1.
50% saving made by switching from old supplier to new suppliers (not dual fuel), better tarrifs on both gas (40% saving) and elec (10% saving) by splitting across 2 suppliers plus better controls over elec usage.

Ofgem doesn't respond formally to individual complaints even when they relate to alleged issues of non-compliance with Licence obligations. I know - I have tried. The only positive response that I have ever received - after a long period of pushing - is words to the effect that 'your submission relating to non-compliance has been passed to our Enforcement Team'. More often than not, the standard response is that 'your comments have been added to our intelligence database'.
Ofgem is not the most dynamic/reactive of the OF regulators. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
