Advice please

Long story, I'll try for the abridged version:

Put my flat on the market September 2016, got an acceptable offer fairly quickly and had an offer accepted on my next purchase. Got gazumped a week later and took another 6 weeks to find somewhere else. My buyers hung on for this, but pulled out due to losing their job a week after my offer had been accepted. I got my flat back on the market quickly and found another buyer, but had to accept slightly less money. This was 1st week of December 2016.

Fast forward to now after going through all the hoops with solicitors and finalised sorting an issue with the freeholders yesterday, my onward purchase have decided to accept another offer. They'd put it back on the market 10 days ago.

So I have basically got to the point where it was all going to exchange...but now I have no where to go to and have no idea what to do!

Do I see if my buyers will wait while I find somewhere to move to, which may be a considerable time as not much suitable is coming onto the market in the areas I'm looking or do I try and find somewhere to rent that will accept for a few months so I can get my flat sold?

Just at the end of my tether and would appreciate any advice.

Put simply it is a two stage process, sell then buy. You tried to do it simultaneously and it didn't work so try selling, renting and buying. So at least you are part way through. Doesn't work in an increasing House price market though.

Oh dear that's really bad luck.

The ball is in your court. You either carry on and hope it works out, or you decide to stay put. You don't really want to do that though, do you. So you'll probably just try and find another property and hope your buyer is still there when you find it.

The other option of course is to break the chain - go ahead with your sale and find a stop gap until you find the right property to buy. If you're on your own with little furniture that's easier than if you're a family with a 4 bed house full. But people do do this and often say it cuts out some of the stress with the chain business.

If you really are almost ready to exchange, it seems daft for the sellers to drop you for somebody who's back at square one.

Or have the other people offered more money than you?

If you haven't done so already, it might be worth speaking to the EA and emphasising how close you are to exchange.
