4K on 43" TV is a waste of time unless you intend to sit 2ft away from it.

You do get updates on smart TVs but not constantly. The apps will get updated from time to time and so will the OS but the OS will maybe be once or twice a year and the apps probably about the same.

Why do you say 4k is a waste of time on a 43inch tv?

The ability of the human eye to resolve resolution based on the occular arc.

If you want an example of this get a pen or pencil and a sheet of paper and get someone to put the smallest dot they can on it which will most likely end up being about the same size as a pixel on a 43" 4K TV. Get them to stick it on the wall and from the other side of the room walk towards it until you think you can see it and give them directions to where it is. The reason it is invisible until you get to a certain point is because the human eye can only perceive 60 pixels per degree of field of vision and once the dot becomes smaller than one of those pixels then you can't see it.

Same applies to a TV. The image is made up of individual dots. The smaller the TV screen the smaller the size of the dot. That means you need to be closer to see the dots on smaller screen than a larger one in order to get the full detail. Further away from that distance and you don't get the benefits.

Someone did the maths and came up with this chart. Basically at normal UK viewing distances of 8ft most people are wasting their money on a 4K TV with the sizes being typically bought.

Cheers Tarambor, didnt think getting a new Tv would be so difficult, but better to get it right as they are expensive.

saw this and being over 35 and bought the best hi system I could sort of afford but that's a different argument of course.
Perception of course is subjective and advertising / hype makes us all fools https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/why-ultra-hd-4k-tvs-are-still-stupid/
I must look out the equivalent article for the best sound system, sadly I probably wont:D It's like the threads on here that asking for the best headphones/speakers etc
    subjective is personal
My advert is if you find something that suits you why ask for someone to give opinions when they can't see what your eyes see and how well you can hear:rotfl:

Edited : just realised why don't you ask if this piece of kit is reliable but of course that is also subjective because I might have bought a Friday afternoon manufactured one.

    Hey..!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if MSE introduced a TV Forum for all questions TV-related..?

They could even put it right beside the Mobiles Forum, where every TV-seeker could see it before this forum! :D

That forum seems to be more about TV services than anything else. As this is a techie forum it seems as appropriate as any.
