I've found a CD of documents I processed in 2007 - the programme used seems to be MS document imaging so the documents are .tif

Is there anyway to convert them to pdf? Perhaps they are a lost cause!

Thanks

  • try paint or even word/libreoffice right click on it and select open with what you have. TIF are tagged image format one of those should open it

  • Irfanview - and it has a batch convert mode. Uncheck the 'show options' box and it will do a whole directory of files in one go.

    Thanks.

I've right clicked and chosen reader. That way I can read then but really wanted them in PDF. No option to read in word.

  • Bear in mind that a TIF file is a graphics format. If you print the file to PDF, the result will be a PDF of a graphic, which is not the same thing as as a PDF of text. One consequence of that is that the PDF will be bigger than if it contained only text and was printed from a word processor.

If you want to recover editable text from your files, you will need to process them with OCR (optical character recognition) software.
