Car shows on Insurance Data Base Theft Register

I have owned an Audi RS4 for 7 years, back in 2013 it was stolen using the keys. Three days later was found and recovered with no actual damage as such, carpet cut, boot panels pulled out, scuff on the seat etc.
The car was and still is insured with esure, on speaking to them I did say I didn't want the car back to which I was told I didn't have a choice and it would be repaired this was before anybody had actually seen the extent of any damage. Four months later I got the car back, with no complants on any of the work carried out.
Everything was ok until I enquired on part exchanging the car last weekend, this morning I received an email saying the garage would not be willing to take in part exchange due to it being on the Insurance Data Base Theft Register.
I have been left now with a car with a greatly reduced value and will be a problem to sell. Going on my own view I would not buy a car with a problem history.
I have not spoken to esure as yet as I would like to know where do I stand or anybody with experience of this, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks AndyP

Why not sell it privately & use the funds raised towards the new vehicle?Dwy galon, un dyhead,

The value has been reduced greatly, we're talking about a £20,000 car which is now probably worth half that.
At the very least esure should of informed me that it would show up on a HPi report.0 -
Another point that has just been raised, what value would esure put on the car now if it was written off with it being on HPI?0

Has it been recorded correctly?

Recovered stolen vehicles that are undamaged, or with only minor damage, must be notified to MIAFTR as recovered. The record must not be deleted.0 -
Its not greatly reduced in value, you just happened to choose one dealer that didnt want it for the deal on the table.
Other dealers may not care never mind offer a lower value.

Just out of interest, why is there a need to maintain records of vehicles that have been recovered with no/minor damage?0 -
Andy many thanks for your interest in our Porsche 997 C2S for sale, however it would not be possible under any circumstances to take you’re Audi as a part exchange car considering its poor history in relation to the Hpi register.
Hpi report attached.
This is the reply from the dealer.
