Just looking for opinions from anyone who has been to one of The Escape Rooms please.
Ive been invited to go to one of these in a couple of months and have to say it does appeal. Im quite competitive and love quizzes, challenges and problem solving so its sounds like a really good night.
But-
I am 64 but not in my head! Looking at all the photos it looks like a younger persons thing even though the blurb says its suitable for all ages (although it does suggest flat shoes for running!).
What I need to know from someone who has experienced the rooms is whether or not I will look ridiculous and possibly put the rest of the team at a disadvantage.
Do you have to be very athletic or are the challenges mostly 'thinking based'?.
I notice there is one room called the slaughter room. Is it one of those attractions that have actors taking part. I remember some years ago going to 'Terror on Church Street' in Orlando were we were chased by axe wielding blood soaked actors and actors were falling from hanging body bags. Im not sure Im still able to run like I did then!
Anyone have any experience please.

Weve done a few escape rooms and none have been any more physical than riding an exercise bike in order to run a light. Everything else has been 'thinking based' and im sure you will thoroughly enjoy it if you like puzzles and problem solving etc. We took my inlaws and they are older than you and they enjoyed it too.0

Thank you for the reply. I have another question if you wouldnt mind-
The website says if you have not been before to try one of the easier rooms first.
There are 5 levels so which would you say to try first bearing in mind we want a challenge but not so its impossible. I dont want to start at level one and find it so simple that we have wasted money and time if thats the case.0 -
It might be worth giving them a call because I know of a couple of places that have rooms specifically aimed at kids so just check that none of their rooms are like that and then I would definitely say to start with the easier ones as when that hour is ticking away you cant think as straight as you usually might lol0

me and a group of mates do them regularly. we have done some that are not at all physical at all and some that involve things like crawling through a hatch to get to a padlock and open a door and things. I would suggest that if the entire group are unable to kneel / crawl / do physical things then maybe talk to the operators in advance and check you will be ok. but we found in most cases we only needed one of us to be able to do a task ( for example we were a team of 2 props a 2nd row and a winger so we let the winger do the crawling between the lazer beams task that required a bit more flexibility). also if the worst came to the worst and there was a room with an aspect they thought you were going to really struggle with, id hope that the room organisers would recognise this and suggest a different one.saving for more holidays0

I went to my first one a couple of months ago and loved it - three of us in our 50's, 60's. Apart from having to actually stand/walk around the room for the hour there was no real physical exertion - mainly looking round the room for keys and clues, unlocking boxes, solving codes etc.
Ours was a one-off operation rather than part of a chain, and the guys running it were brilliant - continually monitoring how we were getting on via CCTV and providing just the right level of hints / suggestions via walkie talkie to keep us moving along.
We came out eager to try other ones, but found out via Trip Advisor that the local one to us doesn't operate in the same way - you have to ring a bell for hints and wait for them to come to you - and didn't have very good reviews, so we'll wait until the oroginal lot open up another room.0 -
Yes, we already tried GetOutGames escape rooms, we had so much fun that we tried all of their 5 rooms each with a different theme so its a whole new experience every room.0

We've done a few panic/escape rooms for teambuilding. Our team range from 18-70 and whilst you my have to get on hands and knees to check under things, that's the limit of physical exertion. On one we had to crawl through a fireplace that popped open when we solved a clue, but in general it's 95% mental ability. The man without a signature.0

Yes, its really fun, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. We have been to GetOutGames many times and I enjoyed every room they offered.0
