Unfair Ground Rent Charges

Hi there.

Due to me undergoing an horrendous set of financial circumstances and being financially embarrassed, I have been late paying my ground rent and I would like some advice on how much is a reasonable late payment fee.

My ground rent is £150 for 6 months, up from £75 for 6 months, 100% increase?? but that is another story.

Because I have not paid it for a few months, I am now being charged an additional £416 in late payment charges. So from £75 to £566 !!!!

This is criminal.

Does anybody know if I can challenge these fees?

This has happened before and the charges have gone onto my mortgage, although I never authorised them to do this. Is this permitted?

I live in Guernsey and this outrageous act would not be allowed. I am landlord to 3 properties in the UK.

Thanks
Martin

What does your contract say about fees for late and missed payments?

If you have also missed payments before and got hit with charges then you really need to look at your budgeting to avoid the same happening over and over again. Sorry for stating the obvious but if something like this keeps happening then you need to figure out why.
