BT Basic watch out

We spent ages setting up a basic line for a disabled relative - £15 per quarter because he would use the phone very little but needed the line for a lifeline alarm. - BT were reluctant and made it as difficult as possible, sending us round in circles. But we did it. However the first Bill was for £90 - they had set up Anytime calls without our permission and charged in advance on DD. We had to ring up to cancel it. So watch out, they are very sneaky.

Is this a basic BT line with inclusive weekend calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers or is it the specific BT Basic deal for those in receipt of certain benefits?

It is worth reviewing exactly what is covered by these deals and how much other calls cost.

15 quid a quarter would be for those on benefits.

You get some calls included in this.
They even cap your call charges.
    It's a good deal

Yep. After the recent revamp, BT Basic is now worth having...

  • Yes it is the basic deal for landline including £4.30 worth of calls. We got this for him as he only needs a basic line mostly for the use of a lifeline alarm. He is just the sort of person it is designed for, disabled and on benefits but in need of a landline.
As this does not earn BT any money they are very reluctant to give it to you and when we applied they obfuscated, sending us from person to person and back again. We only got it by being very persistent. Then we found they had sneakily added on additional packages.
  • How much were you charged for anytime calls. £90 seems an awful lot, for a quarter?

The Anytime package is £8.50/month, so £25.50 per quarter, £40.50 including line, so something else has been charged for.
