The only really irreplaceable aspect of the N&P account and card is the unlimited facility for free overseas ATM withdrawals at the straight VISA exchange rate.

The best non-CC replacement I know of for this, with relatively generous withdrawal limits, no fee for the first two per month and £1 thereafter, and no relevant fees at all otherwise, is the Loot prepaid card and account. It has a sort code and account number so there should be no problem receiving payments such as pension. But it's not a 'real' Bank account and has no FSCS protection, so best to just use it for travel, topped up as required.

Also note that Loot is quite new and 'so far unproven' - I find the app and transfers work fine but I have not tested actual card use so far (not home to receive it yet).
    Evolution, not revolution
