Even if you had no PPI you would still get that letter. They are required to write to you to verify your complaint and that they have received it. That happens upon receipt before it is passed to a complaint handler to look at.

It's not somehow wrong to have had PPI. In order for it to be refunded, it will have to have been mis-sold to you.

What exactly is your complaint? Have you actually "complained" that you don't know whether you had PPI? That's not a very robust complaint, I'm afraid.

You do realise that you could have just asked the Bank directly if you ever had PPI(and not have to wait eight weeks for a response)?

Pretty sure I had PPI as I was told that I had to take it out to get the loan.

So why are you asking if the Bank have "admitted" that there was PPI?

Selling PPI is not a crime. The point is that the insurance was widely mis-sold to people who often had no need or desire for it or for whom it was not suitable.

If you had PPI it would be on the loan agreement. If you no longer have a copy, why didn't you simply ask the Bank directly prior to complaint?

If it turns out you have no PPI, won't it embarrass you to realise that you told the Bank that they apparently said you had to have it?

It is always wiser to research a potential complaint before actually making one. If it turns out PPI was not applied to the loan in question, then the complaint that bank staff (inaccurately) said the insurance was compulsory will be shown as completely false.

The banks receive many many "complaints" from customers who did not even have PPI. This slows down the complaint process for those with genuine concerns about mis-sold PPI.

The logical approach would have been to ascertain whether PPI was actually applied prior to making any complaint about it. A simple enquiry by telephone or letter could have easily established this far more quickly than having to wait eight weeks for it to go through the complaints process.

However, good luck if it turns out that you did have PPI.
