Just Received a Debt Recovery Letter!

I got a parking ticket (parking charge notice) back in October, I looked on this site to find out what to do next and saw that it was best not to ignore! So I wrote back to appeal and used a format off this site. I looked into the company as suggested and found it was a 'proper' company. I parked in a pub car park in a bay which was allocated (sign in place) to the Post Office next door, I went to the post office. Shortly after I got a letter about a fine as I shouldn't have parked there, I corresponded by saying that the bay was for the Post Office, customers were given 15mins there. I then received a letter from the company saying that the signs have been removed! But they were there when I was parked!! I've got a letter from a debt recovery company now saying that I owe £180. I'm about to reply to the original company saying that the signs were in situ on the day in question. But now I'm worried with receiving the debt recovery letter!!! What should I do?

None of these are proper companies in the normal sense they are all scammers as you have found out.

You need to name the company so the regulars can see who you are dealing with.

Reading between the lines it doesn't look like you took in the advice on here if you appealed like that and gave away who was driving.

If you had also taken in the information on here you would also know not to engage with or worry about debt collectors.
  • I haven't responded to the debt collectors and don't intend to. The company is called Parking Awareness Services. On this site it stated to see if this service was a member of particular associations and it was, I followed the suggestion not to ignore it and used a letter format that was published on this site.

Do I respond with my letter regarding the signs or not? Seeing as I have already communicated with them?

Parking Awareness Scammers are IPC members. Did you use the IPC template from the NEWBIES thread? If you did then you have reached the end of the usable appeals process and are now in ignore mode unless you get a LBC/LBCCC/MCOL.

Good, don't respond to the debt collectors, but why are you worrying about them?

You will be wasting your time with this lot they will just tell you your appeal was turned down and to pay up.

You are really in ignore mode now, what happened when you complained to the Post Office at the time of the incident?
  • Yes and I remained as the keeper and didnt disclose who was driving the vehicle.
I guess the panic started when the debt letter came. I'm not a pro at this one bit I'm a young driver! I have only corresponded once so I'll leave it there then and see what happens...

Come back if you get real court papers, and in that case they can only chase you for the original charge not the debt collectors add on scam.
