Credit File monitoring - do I NEED to subscribe at great expense?

Hi all,

this question may have been posed before.

I run my own business, and I have a paranoia about keeping my credit file clean and in the best possible state. I fear if it was not, this could impact on my ability to raise finance for my business, as well as when I next need a decent mortgage etc.

So - I subscribe to both Experian Credit Expert AND Equifax - cost combined is basically £25 / month.

Question is - is there a cheaper way of keeping a close eye on my credit files from all three agencies?

Cheers.

    Equifax - Clearscore is free
    Callcredit - Noddle is free
Experian - MSE Credit Club is free, does not show the whole file though, only the score and a few other details.

Keep in mind that a statutory report is £2, so you could do that every month to experian if you wanted and pay less.

    Hi Matt5791,

To add to the above post, since last week the MSE Credit Club is now providing my full Experian credit report free of charge.

However, all three free credit reports are only updated once a month. In addition, Clearscore will update you within one week if there is a change on your report.
  • MSE credit club is also showing my Experian Report.

Good to know we can now get all 3 reports for free.

Also people that worry about their useless scores, they all give you your useless score for free.
  • Thanks for the helpful replies here.

Looks like I can save £25 / month!

On another note, one of my complaints about credit files is there should be a written advise 14 days, or something like that, before the lodging of any adverse information with any credit agency and they should tell you in that document how to avoid it (course of action, like, pay up in 14 days)

With these agencies now so powerful, I think there needs to be a major regulatory overhaul.

    But that's for another discussion!

    Long overdue in my opinion.
