I'm looking for a SFF graphics card that has windows 98 drivers and DVI output. I don't care how pants the card is, its the DVI out that matters. Does anybody know if any cards like this exist? I can't find one.
Thanks
Darren

I might be massively over complicating things.
Can I use a VGA to DVI cable if I plug the VGA end into the computer output and the DVI end into my monitor?

Darren
VGA is an analogue signal and DVI is digital.
For what you suggest to work, it would depend on the type of DVI input on your monitor.
If it's DVI-A or DVI-I then it will work ..
If its DVI-D then it wont work.0 -
A monitor with a VGA input would be the easiest thing to find, very cheap or for free. VGA to DVI might work - check any cables you may have to see if they fit - DVI sometimes has a '+' at one end of it, sometimes a '-'.
And if you want help with a graphics card, you need to tell us whether it's PCI, AGP etc. SFF just makes it that bit harder!0 -
Your probably looking for a GeForce 4 to 6200 type card

Agreed for the above but no newer than a Geforce 4MX. nVidia has the drivers for Windows 98 under Legacy. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Thanks everyone.
To explain.
I'm putting 98 on an old Optiplex 745 to use as a games computer for some old games. I have room on my desk for a second computer but not two monitors. I'm going to buy a male to female DVI connector to plug into the monitor and I can then plug the cable from either computer into that cable without having to unplug the cables from either graphics cards. Hence the need for VGA to DVI for the monitor.
Thanks again.

Have you investigated virtual machines?0

I'd say VNC onto the 98 machine, but it's probably not fast enough for game playing if there's any kind of high-speed action involved.0

Not at home at the moment Darren, but I have 2x Gigabyte 5450 graphics cards in my boxes, which were only used for a very short time. I will take a look tomorrow.
EDIT: They are actually Gigabyte GV-R4350-5121, not 5450, sorry. They were used by my grandson and myself as first graphics cards, for just 5 weeks before we bought a much more powerful card each. Both are like new, both have vga, DVI-I (Dual link) and HDMI. They have been sat wrapped in anti static in a box, in a dry room for about 5 years. PM me if you want them.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
