Facebook Hacked

My OH has had is FB account hacked. They have changed his email and password and he now has no access to it. I am going round in circles trying to find out what to do as it will only allow a reset email to go to the email of the hacker. Please, what on earth do I do now?

Have you tried the Facebook compromised account reporting page?
    Link on here.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Thank you, we have tried that but no access to anything that can be used for recovery.

  • Now he is questioning if he actually had this account, it would be a second account, is it possible to duplicate FB accounts?

You dont know your email address, phone number or a name of a friend on your account?

The email address has been changed, we know at least one friend on the account but the only recovery option seems to be the email that we do not recognise. He never put a phone number on it. It is strange because it has the same picture as his private account.

This is why we are thinking it is a duplicate account.

Scammers will often steal a profile picture and create a duplicate account.

Then send a Friend request to all the people who the the original account was 'Friends' with (which is why you should always change the setting to keep your Friends list private).

So that can explain the one friend in common as well, because some people accept without thinking.

But in that scenario, if you login to Facebook using the original email address, that should let you in.

We have got into the original account with no problem, we have now changed the profile picture and messaged all the friends, we have also reported the rip off one, so hopefully will soon be sorted.

    Glad you got it sorted.

If you haven't already, now change the Privacy on the Friends List to 'Only Me'

Also consider having Login Approvals switched on.
