hi
we;ve been without a car for almost a yr its a nightmare it takes so much of our time up walking miles for shopping, we need another car asap before winter comes in!!!!
but what about mot, tax obviosly ours ran out some time ago, as it was 'off the road' if i was trading it in, or selling it what would i need to do???
our old suzuki wagon r 2001 reg T packed in needs new engine, otherwise good condition.
i have no clue what to do i dont want to get ripped off, i will have money for a 2nd hand engine but was quoted at 800 quid, but then i take it ill need to pay a garage to put it in service it, any idea how much in total?
we dont want the car when fixed we want something else like a corsa, or something else.
what should we do?
i know garages can rip you off, i dont want to trade it in somewhere if im not going to get a decent amount for it.
any experts out there know what 2 do? PLEASE CAN ANY1 HELP?

Hi
I have taken a quick look on parkers.co.uk car valuation website.
A T-Reg (1999 not 2001) is worth £775 in part ex. I used the 1.0 engine model and also used the letter T from your post as its more likely that the year is wrong in your post than the reg letter.
Therefore without an engine your current car is completely worthless - sorry.
You might as well get it down the scrap yard asap, probably will cost you money though in a trailer/tow.
You need to start from scratch again.
Martin has written a guide on buying new cars, is this what you are after.
Most common place to start for buying used cars in autotrader magazine and website in conjuction with parkers website for cross checking prices to make sure you know the sort of price they should be charging.
Hope this gets you started.

Get a car from ebay, usually quite a bit less than the paper ads. Set yourself a budget and stick to it. Look through at what prices cars have been sold at and aim for that if within reason. Remember if buying a car from ebay and when you come to pick it/test drive it and its not as described then just walk away.0

You might want to pull all usable bits off your existing wagon r, headlights, bumpers, doors, seats, seat belts (assuming you have somewhere to store them all and it is easy enough to take these things out) basically anything and everything. Get another Wagon r (which probably isn't such a bad idea as high depreciation means there are some bargains about and they are usually owned by careful owners who care for them). Then if something goes wrong you have plenty of spare bits.0
