Go on the freebies site and apply for the free days/nights out etc. Sites like seefilmfirst usually offer 2 free tickets per email address so if you register different address's you should get enough tickets. Me and my brood have had free meals at Wagammama's, Cinema tickets (up to 2 films per week!!) Car Racing weekends, Day out at ALton Towers etc all for free. There are also free holidays on there periodically - you just have to be vigilent. I get loads of my christmas pressies from there. Something arrives in the post most days - all for free. Much more exciting than bills!!! Have a go.

Thankyou for the kind replies. I am not, thankfully, in the situation where I will have to ask the school for lost property, but will definitely look into getting it second hand. I will try freecycle...why didn't I think of that! It is a state school, but rather a sought after grammar so they have a bit of a 'if you don't like it then...' attitude I'm afraid. If I knew for definite that other children would follow her it would make buying the £30 rugby shirt etc a bit more easy! They are currently setting up a second hand shop apparantly, hopefully it will be in time for us this year! I have asked a mum who has had children at the school and she says they get away with asda shirts and trousers. The blazer is maroon unfortunately, so not a lot of hope of getting a cheap one and sewing a badge on, don't think you can get the badges anyway. To add insult to injury, the nearest designated outfitters is 20 miles away! I feel like she's going to Hogwarts... wish she was actually, at least it would be fun!

Thanks also for the tip on the freebies, I am pretty new here and had no idea!

    Thanks again, Ness.

I could buy new but I find the secondhand uniform sale is actually more convenient. John Lewis never seem to have stock and the factory they use to make the uniform shuts down for the whole of August (good timing or what?) It's also a matter of stewardship - I genuinely feel it's wrong to throw money away if you can get good quality items in the sale. At least you know at the secondhand sale that they'll have stuff you want to get provided it's the right size, which isn't always the case with charity shops.

By the way, private schools in our prosperous area all have secondhand uniform sales - it's like the first day at Harrods sale - you need sharp elbows!! So I don't see why any state school should look down on the idea just because it is oversubscribed
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I am unsure what you mean by a menu for a bigger family? Surely the menu would be the same, just more of it?

There are families on here with 5, some more than 5, I am sure they'll pop in when they have time (in between looking after the tribes :rotfl:)
One day I might be more organised...........
