Thanks, these cards look good but wobbly in the long term.

I take it there are no strong views for or against the Instant Saver account on MSE then?

I think the fact no-one has said it's a great idea speaks volumes. Why would you bother with a pathetic paying account when you can get vastly better especially if your main reason is to have an alternative method of payment. Is that a strong enough view?

Maybe explain what wobbly means? I've never had a wobbly card and have more than 5 credit cards at present
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

    Points taken.

What current accounts are suggested - specific rewards credit card issuers, banks, building societies please?

My current account is a 123 Santander.

    Thanks.

You want all of them suggested? What about doing some research yourself? To get you started, the best current account is the one paying the highest interest rate isn't it? If you haven't enough money to earn interest it's the one paying the best Reward, ie Halifax, Co-op, etc. See the articles on the main site. As for credit card rewards, then see the articles on the main site. Forget building societies.
My current account is a 123 Santander.
So presumably you're making more than £5 a month in DD cashback? If not, why not downgrade to Lite (£1 per month fee) and keep your cash in a current account paying you a net gain?

Thanks, Co-op sounds nice, I just organised a Co-op points card. It's the second plastic I want to put in place, credit card would be good.

Oops - is this a concern please?

Had you considered a Nationwide Flexdirect with associated regular saver?

    Or a TSB Plus?

Thanks, I haven't looked at those yet.

I do quite a bit of shopping at Tesco, I noticed a Tesco Clubcard credit card, does this also represent a bank you can deposit money into please?

Guess so, there is the page here http://www.tescobank.com/credit-cards/

Sorry, back in my day banks were banks and shops were shops, I get a bit fased by all the new banking which has sprung up. Santander used to be my building society for example, now they're my bank.

You would have done well to consider a couple of Tesco current accounts when these were still available - may still be worth considering when they become available again.

Thank you. Is there a supermarket bank you would recommend please? I use Tesco, Sainsbury and the Co-op. I also know of a Waitrose quite local to where I live.

Why do you want a supermarket bank?

It would appear that current accounts as here would meet your requirements?

You don't have to switch, you can simply apply to open a current account.
