How to estimate cost of kitchen

Due to flooding, my kitchen base units are to be put into storage until they dry out and repair the floor. The storage company (through my insurance company), have asked for a valuation of what's to be stored. Not sure where to start really as the kitchen was already here when we moved in and I don't know where it was from. Also, it has integrated double oven, fridge and dishwasher. Presumably, if the units were to be damaged, the remaining top cupboards would have to be replaced too or they wouldn't match. Do you think it is ok to just give a top end estimate, i.e. whatever it would cost to replace and fit a kitchen in the unlikely event of this happening?

  • Yes, I would get a couple of quotes from different companies and use those for your insurance estimate.

Quotes need to be for similar fittings to what you already had before the flood.

So no add owns like integrated white goods etc.

  • Unless you've got sets + pairs cover the insurance will only replace damaged items in the set. They should make a 50% contribution towards undamaged items, but you'll probably have to push hard for that.

    Has the kitchen been discontinued?

I can't find the same units. Mine are not damaged, just the floor. It's just that the insurance company require the storage people to have their own insurance.
Best case scenario, and the most likely, is that mine will be restored intact once the floor has been done. I love my kitchen and have no desire to start replacing it with a new one. I don't expect a kitchen fitting service would be prepared to quote when it's unlikely they will get any business from it. I will have a word with my broker and ask if a rough estimate would be OK.
