whats my problem? im not the one on here suggesting house prices are way to high and its unfair some cant afford yet cant come up with a solution. you havent even come up with a reliable and accurate figure on how bad the situation actually is!
I think I have it's just that you are to blinkered to see it.0 -
I'm just having a discussion on a discussion forum and just find it amazing how blinkered some of the obviously better off people and there lack of understanding of how the less well off live.
i think you mean me? there will always be people out there who are not well off at all. but thats why we have social housing and benefits.
if you want to create a discussion on how we all should feel sorry for people who cant afford london property and for the generally less well off then ourselves then please start another thread with mr wind and have your discussions and sympathies posted on there.0 -

you havent. please provide reliable affordability figures to find out how bad the problem really is.
and if there truly is a problem (which there is of course at a certain level but a lot less of a problem then you may think) please provide a solution.0 -

I think it is you and others like you who hold your view who are blinkered at the vast amounts of wealth in this country. As evidenced by your continual refusal to look at wealth inheritances and gifts and only look at income
I do have a lot of sympathy for the 'priced out' young and even not young of London who will have little choice but to leave the capital. However I understand this as natural and normal just like I myself am priced out of many many areas of London and I know I can not conclude from that that the world is unfair or those areas are in bubble the most reasonable conclusion is that richer people live there and if I want to live there I will need to get richer rather than hope/prey that those people get poorer0 -

TBH i am more sympathetic to the older priced out to buy but despratley want to for family etc.
but for the young i am less so as they have youth on their side to try improve themselves so they eventually can afford. plus they will be standing on the shoulders of giants with massive technological improvements of the future.0 -
On that one again are we my children are in thier late 30s and 40s so it's going to be a bit late when they get my money.
well you may be the first in your line to gather capital and be able to pass it on but that does not mean everyone is in the same boat some people have multi even dozen generations of savings and wealth
The good news is if you do at some point pass on wealth to your kids their lives will possibly be easier if they are good with money they will add to it and make the grandkids lives even easier and so on and so on
These people exist today and they are passing on about £550 million pounds....daily!0 -

Agreed its sad that everyone who wants a house in London can't have one. And I really mean that. However it really is a first world problem not being able to buy in the capital and needing to move to Birmingham.
I know some people will regard that as patronising as there will be individual stress and sadness at having to move. However it's not on the scale of two thirds of humanity dyeing before reaching the age of five years which was the norm until not that long ago.0 -

indeed. i find this whole housing debate really silly and i question if there really is a crisis in london. humans can adapt and im sure they can adapt to not being able to afford to buy.
now i know its very easy for me to say this as i guess im in a bit more fortunate position then those who cant afford. however lifes what you make it and its all relative really. as you say its pretty much all luck. theres no point beating yourself up or feeling angry about the world about an issues such as housing. and not forgetting uk is quite generous with social housing and benefits. maybe i should be angry at my hard earned taxed going to subsidise housing for those who are too lazy to better themselves?0 -
