PCN Asda

I've had another thread running about a recent PCN but now that I've done all that I can with that so far I thought I would post on here about Asda.
About 18 months ago I received a windscreen ticket in a local Asda car park from a PPC for parking in a disabled bay without displaying a blue badge.
The circumstances were that I had my disabled 91 year old mother with me who uses a wheelchair. She is a blue badge holder but doesn't drive. We use this particular Asda on a weekly basis and have done for several years.
On this occasion, my mother was not feeling up to shopping so I left her in the car while I went into the store. On my return approx 40 mins later, I found my mother distressed as I had received a parking ticket.
The blue badge had slid off the dash into the drivers side footwell and my mother couldn't reach it. When she saw the jobsworth writing the ticket she tried to tell him that the blue badge was on the floor but he basically told her that the ticket was valid because the badge was not displayed correctly.
I took my mother home and rang the store requesting to speak to the manager. He wasn't there that day but I was told to call in to see him a couple of days later which I did (accompanied by my mother). I asked at customer services to speak to him and explained why. It was handed off to another staff member who rang the managers office and discussed the problem with him. Once he had the full details he instructed her to ring the PPC direct and get the ticket cancelled.
It took her almost 2 hours of being transferred to every man and his dog, being told at first they wouldn't cancel it then that they couldn't, her telling them I would go to the press which would be detrimental to the store (which I hadn't threatened btw lol) until finally they caved and agreed to cancel it.
I just wanted to post this so that people would know that it is definitely worth contacting store managers who, if they are sympathetic to your circumstances, can and will get your PCN cancelled immediately.

probably SMART PARKING at the time
in any case , raising a complaint on the actual ASDA website (Leeds - with a reference number)) should result in a cancellation
plus the BB holder can also get themselves added to a "whitelist" of BB holders if they give the VRM details to asda head office for inclusion on their national "whitelist"
how do I know this ?
because I am a BB holder and have already done so
well done for persisting with it though0 -
Carolec, can you confirm that your mother is the blue badge holder and you left her in the car?0

Yes, that's correct and I can guess where you are going with this.
It's not something I would normally do but my mother decided at the last second she wasn't coming into the store and to be honest, I didn't think it would matter just once. We have shopped at that store weekly for several years and this was the first time she hadn't come in. There were several other disabled spaces available when I went into the store that were still vacant when I came out, so it's not as if I prevented other BB holders parking (no defence I know but I thought I'd mention it
). 0 -

You should have moved the car as soon as you knew your mother no longer needed the disabled parking space. At that point you did not know whether or not you would be denying a disabled space to someone who needed it.
Nobody here likes private parking companies, but there is no reason to validate their existence by using a disabled bay when you don't need it.
Incidently, the blue badge scheme does not apply on private land, but the Equality Act 2010 does.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

Yes, I understand what you are saying and totally agree. I just thought I'd post to let people know that it's worth contacting store managers because they can/will in some instances intervene and get the PCN cancelled.
My mother has been a BB holder for years and we never abuse it. I was in the wrong on this occasion and I consider myself well and truly chastised.0 -
And Smart Parking well and truly beaten, which is the moral of this story and the happy ending!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
