Bill for £400 from EDF for empty property

The issue is it just was not possible to use that much gas unless the meter was faulty, as the property was empty. This is the bit I am disputing. I gave them the opportunity to check the meter back in July but they declined to do so.
I think you're going to have to take it to the ombudsman.
They might point out that gas could be used even if the property was empty, if for example the heating was left on.0 -
Are you sure that the boiler/heating was all switched off when you left the house after refurbs.?? If it was ,then it could point to a leak.
You need to talk to the new owners urgently to see whether they are happy that the meter is accurate - if they are seeing excessive usage you would have some supporting evidence -otherwise,as you agreed the final figure, I'm inclined to think that you are on a hiding to nothing.A leak within the property after the meter would be your responsibility.
EDIT -However, to run up a bill of £400+ for gas, it would have been a hell of a leak - that's more than some use in a year for central heating - the smell would have been horrendous !!0
