clarification regarding credit files

Hi all,

Just doing my annual check of my credit files and got a couple of simple questions:

1. When does a CCJ fall off of your credit report? Is it six years after the date of judgment, or six years after it was satisfied?

2. What does 'total non-mortgage credit balance' actually mean? Is it an overdraft (or debt) or how much the account is in credit by?

3. Why does my Closed mortgage account still show the 72 months activity despite being closed in 2013? (so the activity from 2007 - 2013) Will this be visible to potential lenders when I finally get round to applying for a new mortgage later this year?

<<Edit>> 4. When do payday loans fall off credit reports, is this after six years as well, and is that the date they are satisfied and account is closed?

Any help appreciated

    1. Date of judgment
    2. Every credit that isn't a mortgage - cards, overdrafts etc.
    3. Looks fairly normal, the whole file entry will drop off in 2019.
    4. Same as any other debt.

So yes, they actually publish some financial data about you for 12 full years - not six.
  • thanks both for the reply, that's really helpful - guess I'll have to wait until 2020 before I go for a mortgage then (CCJ deletion date) :(

It's not unheard for a person with CCJ to get a mortgage, plenty of success stories on that forum in that regard. Just make sure that besides that one incident your history is spotless and you have given mortgage broker all the relevant information.
