WARNIGNG: cs electric Belfast dont care!

The cost of the set is irrelevant. The question is whether it was 'of merchantable quality' and 'fit for purpose' (Sale of Goods Act). I think that since it lasted over three years, the shop is well within its rights to argue that it was both those things. Legally, the manufacturer is equally 'in the clear' on the same grounds.
However, from a PR & Customer Relations viewpoint, I would have thought that JVC should at least be offering a discount on a replacement set, and a decent retailer would be pushing their local JVC representative in this regard.0 -

I take it you didn't read this bit of the original post then? They also admitted that they supported the '' 6 year rule'' (which says according to trading standards electrical goods should last for)
Imagine walking into a shop for a brand new plasma tv - the sales guy sales to you here's a cracking set, brilliant picture, brilliant sound, won loads of top awards only downside is it will only last about 3-4 years and then you will need to replace it - would you buy it?
It sounds like a classic tale of passing the buck - JVC saying its CS Suppliers problem and visa versa. I would imagine though that in reality it is JVC as the manufacturers of the set who are responsable for any faults, I mean if you CS Suppliers agreed to do something about it the first place they would go to would be JVC!
I agree that it is shocking customer service on both companies part. I would consider contacting the press as well, Belfast Telegraph, Newsletter etc. As JVC are a national company with offices in England i would consider contacting some of the English consumer bodies like watchdog etc. Also which.co.uk might be able to help you, they do loads of testing and reviewing of goods etc but i'm pretty sure they tackle consumer rights as well.0 -
thank you for that makavelli! Mum has started the ball rolling for the small claims court and the TV repair shop in craigavon has contacted her again to tell her the replacement part will cost £1500 to buy from JVC-also the owner of the shop was asked by her that day to give her in writting the reason why he couldnt help her in any way ( as asked for by the consumer rights place as he is required by law to do this) and he wouldnt do it! when she pressed him on the matter he said he would post it to her.....he hasnt!
I will keep the post updated as mum has been advised that this will go in her favour and wont take too long :-) YEY mum!!!
