I'm not currently moving, although I hope to soon. I've been re-organising and I recently bought these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DTIPPQE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to store duvets which were taking up valuable space. They are excellent for storing many different things. Besides the duvets I bought them for, I have bagged up spare curtains, bedlinen, towels, and so on. The bags have freed up lots of space and I will definitely be buying some more for winter clothes storage, and so on. The size in the link are ideal for one double (king-sized) duvet, or two singles, but they come in different sizes. Well worth the money and great fun to watch all the air being sucked out!

I've had those vacuum bags from the £store and they failed really quickly, I couldn't recommend them and wouldn't buy them from a cheap store again.
A good idea to work out if a box is too big is to try walking through a doorway when carrying it; if you can't get thru without banging your wrists/ knocking your watch, it's too big.
I would suggest that people moving treat themselves to those gloves with the rubber mesh over them (any market or hardware store). It protects your hands from a lot of wings and dings.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

-Give yourself twice as long to pack as you think you'll need. If you think you can get it down in 3 weeks, start at 6 weeks to go.
-You'll need a lot more boxes than you think. When I last moved, I ended up needing almost double my previous estimate. Get all different sizes. Small boxes for heavy things like books, large boxes for clothes and kids toys.
-When packing, start with things you don't need every day. Books, pictures, CD/DVDs etc.
-On moving day, load up the car with emergency stuff. ie: What you'll need if the truck is delayed/late to arrive/unload. This would be stuff like cups, phone chargers, a change of clothes, basic toiletries/loo roll. Basically what you'd need to get through a night of roughing it.Because it's fun to have money!

Another tip is to buy some archive boxes. They are brilliant - stackable, strong and you can't really fill them enough to make them too heavy. My workplace often gives them away so it's worth seeing if you can get some for free. My only caveat would be to make sure you buy decent quality ones. The really cheap ones (Argos ...) are just not strong enough. However I've got some from Viking that have lasted about five house moves. One of the benefits of them is that you can collapse them completely flat once you've moved, put them back in the box and store them until you need them again.0

Again brill tips especially about walking through a door with a box! I decided against cheapy vacuum bags cos they don't stay vacuumed.
Nearly done with things for the night. I actually can't wait to sit down with a pen and paper and write down the tips so I dont have to keep going online and getting distracted!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

if you are having to take any furniture apart to move, put any screws/bolts in a small bag and tape securely to a part of the furniture that wont be on display when reassembled. nothing would be worse than getting to your new home and realizing you had lost the bolts to put your bed together.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. Ask at your supermarket of choice / local for spare melon & tomato boxes - they have reinforced corners and stack up, and they are the perfect size for cds, dvds & paperback books.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Have just moved - 4 weeks ago.
I labelled every box with the room it was going into, eg UPSTAIRS BEDROOM 2, then made large labels with the name of the room on and stuck it over the doorway of the room in question. The removal men then just had to pick up the box and deposit it in the right room. Saved lots of "Oh, upstairs, second door on your left," instructions. I also stuck a list of a boxes contents on the outside. that helped too.
Good luck, hope you find your dream home soon.

Fruit and veg section is a great idea. No idea what the Range is though.
I've just been out raiding the recycling bin but typical, only managed to find one cereal box. Other weeks it would be a treasure trove. I'm off to ask the neighbours to keep me their bags and boxes.
The range is a ship a huge store with the motto "if we don't sell it then you don't need it" to be honest any large store would be worth trying for packing material.. And it's free :T0 -
Great tips here, I've been doing some, but some are new to me. We've got to step up the packing here, been packing excess stuff all year, few boxes every weekend. Want to be out by Xmas, so need to get to it.0
