Amazon delivery

  • The other option is to just hang onto it.

The owners will check to see its status and see it was delivered to a neighbour, then can then come to collect it if they wish.

Bit shortsighted of them to order something to arrive days before they move. They should have know they were taking a chance if it would arrive in time.

Sometimes Amazon goods can take some weeks to arrive.

Add that they might well not know which neighbour would have it.

No - I dont think thats a good idea.

Yes they do sometimes take weeks but one good thing about amazon is the delivery timescale is clearly displayed so no excuse for the buyer there.

True but if the OP lives next door then its not hard to work out (if the OP is over the street then will be more of an issue)

Up to the OP what they do but personally I would just leave it, not really the OPs job to have the hassle of it, the buyer shouldn't have purchased anything for home delivery so near to a house move.

I sometimes take in parcels for my neighbours but the more I read on here about what can go wrong with this and the hassle it can cause for just doing a favour, I think I might start refusing to take them.

I did start refusing to take them; it got to a point where it was every flippin' week there'd be something for next door (the ones we don't really get on with, too!) and when Mr LW was working, it was a real nuisance trying to hobble to the front door on my walking sticks, to be confronted with yet another huge box of whatever, and find somewhere to put it til Mr LW could take it round for them when he got home
When we got the video entry phone thingy put in, I started saying "No" which I could of course now do without physically going to the front door.

  • Inform Amazon you have a parcel for a neighbour.
They then have a month to collect it.

    Do they?

    Why only a month?

I think Amazon will understand it was taken in loco, in good faith.

Good news! She's just been and collected it - so crisis averted! :)

She said what you said iammumtoone, that it had said they had left it at my house. Because I don't have an account with amazon, I didn't realise this delivery information was provided.

I've just taken in another one for my next door neighbour. Hopefully they are just out for the day and haven't moved out!Anyway at least if it happens again I'll know what to do. Thank you everyone for all the advice.

LameWolf I love the idea of a video entry phone. Can you use it from your settee?

Misty I'm so glad the package has been collected and out of your way, and any more stress averted.

Re the video entry phone - yes, the handset can be accessed from the sofa, so if I'm completely unwell and not able to get to the door, I can say "is it, for me? just pop it on the door step and I'll come get it in a bit" or "is it for a neighbour? No, I can't take it, find someone else or take it back to the depot" - it really does take a lot of stress out of people ringing the doorbell. :o

I have to say, your neighbour really should NOT have told Amazon to leave things with you without asking you first. Manners, and all that. ;)
Anyways, I'm glad it's all worked out ok. :o

Thanks for the info. I might look into getting one for my less mobile days - as I live alone it would be ideal.

I don't mind taking in parcels for the neighbours as I'm here 99% of the time. I could say no to the couriers! I just need to pay more attention to what's happening outside so I can see if they move out lol :)

To be fair they probably didn't.

Its the carrier that decide to knock on peoples doors until they find someone in, it saves them the hassle of taking the parcel back to the depot.

Carriers then upload the info to amazon, so in your amazon orders you can see the status ie left in safe place / given to neighbour etc

    Glad it worked out OP
