Calculator problem

Options
My child has Casio FX-991ES Plus. We are in Mode 1 – COMP setting.

When she types a sum (e.g) 25 + 62.50 + 50 + 125 = this gives her an answer in a fraction (525/2).

Someone told me to press SD button (top of DEL button) to see a decimal answer (262.50). We can’t be pressing SD button each time, a sum is typed!

What’s the way to default the calculator to give decimal answers?

Thanks

click shift and then setup (i think it is called that - the button to the left of the ON button) and select 2 (LINEO)

You could just look in the manual, I haven't checked myself but I'd be surprised if it's not in there.

I looked in small manual you get with the calculator, it wasn't in there. Never checked your link. Anyway, thank you.

18:00 - your link came with the calculator.

From the description given by Oakdene it looks to me like it's the same as the first answer in the FAQ section, but I could forgive you for not spotting that was it, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have without the answer in front of me! Does a child actually need a calculator that complex these days? It seems a long way from the Sinclair Cambridge that I bought in 1973 (but of course was not allowed to use in exams then).

I remember when I started secondary school, I bought a calculator and lasted me beyond A levels. Hope my child gets use to it for coming years.

I've still got mine, in working order, complete with the box, handbook, case, and till receipt.

I remember feeling that calculators were dumbing down when they first appeared and that any idiot could press buttons but using a slide rule took skill and practice.

Then I got my first scientific calculator and the slide rule went straight in the drawer. I still have it, the slide rule, but I doubt very much that I could still use it.

I've still got a scientific calculator too and prefer using it to the one on the computer when performing calculations.
