New boiler quote is this a fair price

Hi

My old boiler has packed in and I got a quote this week for a new boiler and installation.

>Convert current pipe work to accommodate a combi boiler >Supply and installation of Main Eco Elite 25
>Supply and installation of Clock
>Supply and installation of flue and associated pipe work
>We would leave the old cast iron boiler in place for health and safety reasons Please note:

This boiler comes with 5 years warranty as long as it is serviced annually

The price is just over 2000 and I am based in north of England.

IS THIS A GOOD PRICE?

Thanks

It's not outrageous, I paid £2600 for a more expensive boiler (in a new location), 1 extra rad, and smart thermostat in 2015 in the Midlands.

That included removing the old boiler though (although they only took it as far as the back door once I told them I wanted to weigh in all the old copper piping and cylinder myself).

    In contrast BG wanted £4.5k

I'd try and get at least one other quote, even if it's just so you can try and haggle with them, you might be able to get it a little cheaper, but I doubt it will be more than a couple of hundred quid.

No, I had a quote for 1400 inc for similar work within the last 9 months and had a whole house done for under 3k, that included putting in mains gas from the street as well as it was on E7 previously. install included 7 rads, Bosch boiler with 8 year warranty, wireless stat etc and some sort of magnet thingy to pick up any muck etc from the pipes.

Try some small local independents and ask if any of your local builders merchants can recommend anyone, ie Travis Perkins, Plumbcenter etc.
  • It depends, to some extent, on how much work is needed to accommodate a combi-boiler. That will vary from house to house. But it does seem a bit on the high side.

The boiler itself is only £600 incl VAT. Is a 25KW boiler powerful enough (should be powerful enough for a small house but you'd probably want a 30WK for a bigger house)? Is "health and safety" a justified reason for not removing the old boiler (more likely they can't be bothered)?

Get some more quotes from other independents. Consider a more powerful boiler and other brands (Main is probably "mid-range").
