Not specific to petrol but I've noticed Sainsburys aren't competing on price in general.
Lots of products I buy are much cheaper in Tesco or Morrisons when they used to be the same across all 3.
That's why I hardly ever go there apart from to buy their Orange and Mango squash, which is exclusive to Sainsburys.

So you buy all your other shopping elsewhere and take a completely different journey (by car?) to get one item. I hope you save enough on the other items to make up for the special trip...

Tesco in our area have a "Why Pay More?" on their filling station and their lorries. They are usually the most expensive fuel station in the area - even more than a group of petrol stations that used to be Texaco - Apple something they are now...

in fact if Morrisons or the Apple fuel station puts up their prices, Tesco will put theirs up by a penny to keep theirs more expensive.
  • How to lose customers, no longer shop at Sainsburys due to silly fuel price, currently 4p more than Morrisons, Asda, 3p more than Tesco and local Shell garage all within 3 miles of Sainsburys.
Had noticed they had got a bit pricier on shopping and with a new Aldi opened and Lidl within short distance would have thought they would be looking to be competitive, seems not

Don't be silly. Once a year I go into Sainsbury's and fill a trolly with Orange and Mango squash.

I'm joking of course, I do buy things from Sainsbury's when I happen to be near one. But when I'm going to do most of my shopping I go elsewhere.

I checked the Sainsbury's fuel price as I drove past last week. It was about 4p more expensive than Esso a few hundred yards away
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

Yes same pricing policy here, given up competing with Morrisons and Asda. Filled up at Morrisons today, then later as driving near Sainsbury went in there for free air for the tyres.
  • It's getting worse. Travelled round Norfolk this week and fuel is now cheaper in nearly all the villages and small towns than it is at Sainsbury in Norwich - unheard of in living memory, well since I moved to Norfolk in 1978
