Saltdean, nr Brighton - a good/bad place?

We live in central Brighton and have done for a few years. We adore living there but now need a little more room (currently own a 2 bed victorian terrace).

Having looked around Brighton we couldn't find anything in a nice area with a garden (I don't mean a patio - typical Brighton estate agent speak!), 3/4 bedrooms and 2 reception rooms for a reasonable price i.e. £350k.

So we've decided to venture slightly along the coast to Saltdean which is only a 5 minute drive to Brighton marina and a further 5 minute drive to the centre of Brighton. There is good bus links and we can get loads more for our money.

Saltdean seems to be up and coming and they are redeveloping the old Butlins hotel into luxury flats and there seems to be activity there.

Does anyone live there/know much about it?

  • One of my friends considered moving there, but lost out on two properties there & gave up. She now lives in Hove, but says if the chance came to invest in Saltdean she would as she did really like the properties she saw there. As you say, public transport connections are fine.

I agree with you about the 'patio'. One we went to see near Brighton Station was about 2' x 6', & had enough room for the wheelie bin & a couple of plant pots, plus the room sizes were very exaggerated. I asked the estate agent if Stevie Wonder had done the measuring up & Bill Clinton the descriptive text in the advert. He went very red. :D
  • Def seem to get a lot more for your money in Saltdean.
