What about anything Dr Who orientated. Most boys (and the girls in my family) love Dr Who. I second knex and legoAnyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I'm having the same problems getting things for my cousin's boy .... he's rather arty so I was happy to drop on some things in Home Bargains today .. sand pictures at only 99p each!
It has a tray, the picture (which is already sticky) and coloured sand, and you put the right colour sand in the right areas to make your picture ... there was a sailing ship pic, a dolphin one and one with parrots on. Not bad for 99p each!!
I am really stuck now though ... there isn't anything in particular he is into!0 -
I have gone through the what to buy boys scene. Mine will be nearly 15 and nearly 14 come christmas day. I can highly recommend a scaletrix, ours although not played with from one month to the next, makes a reapperance every now and then.
You cant go wrong with Knex, its great when they start making free thinking type stuff. We have the pinball set, very large roller coaster, room robots that shot foam missiles at you, the list goes on and on. Last winter when school was closed due to snow, out it all came and 5 teenagers spent a very happy afternoon making a snowman out of it. Money well spent.CUT OFF DATE FOR XMAS 2008 1st NOVPB £17.87, Ipoints 3907, QUIDCO £217.94,SHOP&SCAN 1950, LITESPEED 1265,PINECONE £8,BOOTS £18.62, IPSOS 1190, VALUED OPINIONS £19.25,MISC SURVEYS CLICK THROUGH ACCS ETC £23,0 -
Hiyas. Just replied to Cullumpster on another thread and thought it might be an idea to copy part of it here. Basically, Cullumpster is making diy bath bombs. Fab idea, in my op!
Here's the relevant stuff:
Couple of sites that talk about making them and where to get ingredients:
http://www.meltandpoursupplies.com/ingredients.htm
http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebst...FQMfEgodjy5AQA
Occurred to me that many of the ingredients can be found at local supermarket and health food / alternative shops.
Suggestion for moulds: what about those nice plastic shape things (stars, fish, etc) that are usually for playing in sand?Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

I'm not sure about the age side for the Roary game but if you take a look at the current Littlewoods thread on the Voucher board, use the £10 and 10% codes listed on there, and you'll get it for 80p :j
I've got it for my 4 year old as he's Roary mad, but I'm sure my 6.5 year old will play with it, lol.
If he's into Dr Who, they also have a couple of the 12" figures (Ood and Clockwork man) in the sale - £10 instead of £20, and the codes should work on them too
Other than that - mine is into Transformers big time - there is a lot of Cybertron around in sales etc as the new movie has superseeded it - not that a 6/7 year old will generally be worried about that.
And the old favourites - railways, cars etc - are always a good fallback.
Glad I read about the Hotwheels sets though - was considering picking one of the bigs ones up between the boys as we've always been impressed with the cars and small sets - shan't bother nowDFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -

Thankx, buxton! Alas, my ween doesn't like Dr Who! (Mad, I know) His favourite fantasy stuff has been The Shoe Box Zoo, did anyone catch it on the telly? I am only speaking from my own experience here (so people- dont shout me down!) but we have had a couple of the Hot Wheels sets and although they can be quite pricey, they always seem to fall apart and are quite flimsy!
Thanx, rebl. Agree they're pricey and not well-made/lasting, but my ween continues to play with them - we make sky bridges supported by bed, chair, books, etc. - of the bits of track that no longer fit together. So far, I've only bought Hot Wheels stuff when it's on 1/2 price.Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

Now there's an idea, it can be expensive, but it's something which can be added to easily enough after the initial spend or if your asked by someone else what your son would like you could ask them to chip in for it.
Action man stuff too is rubbish, as you need hours to assemble it before hand, tonnes of patience and a mountain of superglue to keep it together if the child is actually going to do more than look at it.
Another two things my sons like (as in they still play with it now, well my son who is 13, 14 next week more regulary than the older two) is k'nex and magnetix. You can make some great models with those with the instructions supplied and if your son is artistic himself it's amazing what he will come up with on his own. Both these particularly the k'nex has given my sons hours and hours of fun and much better than a video or dvd as they are letting their imagination run wild and they have to think about what they are doing whilst playing without even realising it.
The son I speak of above is getting a pin ball k'nex set for his Christmas and it looks fantastic.
Metal detectors are pretty good fun too. As for books mine read just about anything, well my middle son that is, check out "The Works" if you have one of those near you as they have some great bargains on books for kids too as well as nick nacks for stockings.
Hope this helps.
Brill suggestions, Cheekywee. Ta. Scalextric is out of budget ('cept maybe 2nd hand).
Isn't it funny how somethings are the coolest for some kids? My boy doesn't like Action Man (he's Scooby Doo mad) and I've been much more interested in magnetix than he's ever been!Still waiting for Dyson to bring out a ride-on hoover...Memberships:

Have you seen the boys "how to be best at everything" books? These go down well with big and little boys alike0

My lot ar not allowed anything bitty.. knex/lego/meccano etc.. nasty stuff.. blocks the vacuum.
They really like the pirate and wooden pirate ships from ELC and the big woodne castle.
They have no interest whatsoever in cars or train sets.. never have.
They like those poppoid things still (12 in January and 8.5) They like dr who as well.. and star wars and little people type things they can have 'battles' with. The ELC knights went down a treat as well as the pirates.. though they do like to get dressed up for the occasion so we have loads of dressing up stuff as well.
