    If so, does the response have to be in the form "I confirm that ....." or
    is it sufficient if you email the question and the reply is something like "That is correct" ?

    My daughter just took out her car insurance with Admiral and whilst happy with a quote of £750 for an 18 year old, through an online comparison site rang them to say I'd attended one in December last year.
    It made no difference ... in fact the opposite. The nice young man offered her a price of £625.

    I really don't understand this insurance lark ...

    They employ people called actuaries to calculate risk. Their most important tool is a random number generator.
