  • I count my blessings to have teenagers and a toddler, the best of both worlds. Living each part of pregnancy and babyhood again has been and is wonderful.

    Interesting poem.

  • It is sad when certain little things stop but hopefully they are replaced by new things.

I fully agree that it is important to appreciate each stage of the life of our children, but I also feel that looking back, there were times I enjoyed more than others. Both my children suffered from very bad colic for many months which resulted with their first months being very much about surviving. The emotional drained that came from knowing they were in pain, yet being unable to take it away, along with the stress and lack of sleep was very difficult.

When I look back at pictures of these times, I am able to remember wonderful feelings of being a mum and the amazing sense of contentment that came with their utter devotion, but it also comes with the sense of relief that I'll never have to go through that stress again!

Some parents (more mums I think!) love the time when their children were infants. I liked the time when they were about 4/5, discovering the world, the time when I could start having a proper discussion with them, the time when they started to be their own person in their own right rather than a product of their dad and I. I loved discovering their own personality and help them to grow confident and contented.

I am really looking forward to being mum to adults children, when my 'job' of teaching them right or wrong will be mostly over and our relationship will shift to one of friendship mainly, or so I hope!
