Royal Mail's Redirection Order (for moving address)

This is to warn anyone considering taking out a redirection Order from Royal Mail. There are some hidden clauses in their rather lengthy smallprint you ought to be aware of before you take out this rather expensive service:
1. Royal Mail does not pay compensation for any lost items. This includes items they deliver to your old address even though you may have an active redirection Order and it is their oversight and they accept it was their fault! Their compensation is is based on a formula which is: cost of redirection order divided by 365 (days per year). For example:
I had a redirection order for 12 months which cost me £119.98 for 2 persons. Royal Mail delivered an order from Boots.com to my old address, which was never recovered. The values was £58. Whilst accepting the package should not have gone to my old address they were only willing to compensate me for £119.98 ./. 365. This came to £0.39.
2. Once you have taken out a redirection Order and decide after some time you no longer need the full duration of your order, you can cancel the arrangement. However, you will not be reimbursed teh cost for the duration you no longer require. As an example: I paid £119.98 for 2 persons for the duration of 12 months. If after 6 months I decide to cancel, I will not be reimbursed for the remaining 6 months, meaning that Royal Mail has earned £59.99 for simply doping nothing.
Buyer beware! These are just 2 examples you ought to be aware of Royal Mail's extremely unethical terms and conditions hardly anyone is aware of.

Did you mean to post this on The Praise, Vent & Warnings Board?0 -
1. Redirection should only really be used to pick up things you forgot to change. Why did you continue to order parcels and online shopping to your old address?
2. If it says It won't refund then that's fair enough. You could have simply chose to not cancel.0 -
this rather expensive service
Obviously your opinion, but I think 16p a day is pretty good value.Whilst accepting the package should not have gone to my old address

You agreed a contact, and then want to breach it. Why would RM want to compensate you for that?
If you are not sure how long you want, shorter time frames than 12 months are available which you can then renew.Buyer beware! These are just 2 examples you ought to be aware of Royal Mail's extremely unethical terms and conditions hardly anyone is aware of.
Not sure where you think they are being unethical. There are businesses who have terms I don't agree with, but it doesn't make them unethical. The terms are clearly available if the buyer wishes to read them before agreeing.0 -
I used it for three months when I moved house in October and it was a perfectly good service, no problems at all he gave me just enough time to catch any mail that either I'd forgotten to update my address with the company or they hadn't auctioned the change. I am very lucky that I have had the same postie for almost 20 years so there have been one or two letters since redirection ended that he has still brought to my new address but probably only because it is so close to my old house and he delivers to the new house writhing five minutes of the old one anyway so he doesn't have to go out of his way to do it.
As for the boots order, I thoughts parcels were excluded from the redirection? It is for mail, anything you buy after you move you should be updating your billing and delivery addresses before buying so I don't even see why they'd accept the blame for that.0 -
I would only use redirection as a back-up - anything important make sure you update your address.
We had some mail delivered to our old address even after paying for redirection - that's why I suggest you update everything you can remember as the system is nor perfect. When I complained I was told that it was someone in the local sorting office/post office which had missed the redirection notice and this is why some letters were sent to the old address. Human error - it happens, no ones perfect.0 -
Was it REALLY NECESSARY to requote the entire message??0 -
