cylinder not firing, reasons?

If it is a MK6 Fiesta it is the ECU that has failed and its a common fault but the cause is what others have mentioned. The ECU ends up having to drive the coil pack harder so the power transistors in it pack up.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Indeed, it was a Renault and I was aware of their backwards cylinder numbering system - I still couldn't match up the error code to the right cylinder. Got it by trial and error in the end.0 -
Thanks folks. Got it into the garage today and it was a HT lead that was the main problem, and one of the spark plugs had water around/on it too apparently. New set of sparks and ht leads, together with filters and oil change will now keep me going a bit longer. The car is a 2005 and has relatively low mileage, about 52k.
There were two advisory notices during the service that I need to look into futher: 1) slight leak on power steering pump and 2)leak/sweating on water pump. I gather these could set me back a few hundred quid......Can't complain too much I guess
