Interesting TV programme

In case anyone's interested, After Brexit is being repeated tonight at 10 p.m. on BBC 4. I missed it the first time around and it wasn't available on iPlayer, so will watch it tonight. It is meant to be interesting.

Yes – I found it very interesting. The situation in southern Europe, for example, actually made me want to weep, for obvious reasons.

May we not live in interesting times, as they say…

The fact that the problems faced by the southern Europeans in general are plain for all to see, while the EU provides no answers and no movement towards reform, suggests that in voting for Brexit we were merely abandoning the sinking ship.

What should be done about the southern Europeans and what is the UK doing about it? What will the UK do differently that will help the southern Europeans?

Nothing and nothing would be my answers.

The sinking ship analogy is a convenient piece of post decision rationalisation.

I watched it properly tonight and will keep in the planner for DH to watch.

It was very sobering and well presented by Katya Adler. Things that stood out to me...

The only EU country without a rising populist party is Cyprus.
The sheer number of businesses going bust in Italy.
That Guy van Hofstede appears to have been drinking the Kool Aid - stating that the answer to rising populism is more EU.
That Juncker is so bad at diplomacy and so smug in his little club that it is perfectly OK to say "here comes the dictator" about a visiting head of state from an EU member state.

Nobody at a high level in the EU appears to have any idea how to face up to the existential crisis it faces.

I despair.

The UK has no mandate to interfere in others countries affairs. Nor them in ours.

Not meaning to deflect the thread but another interesting programme is Hypernormalisation. Especially seeing as how its main character is now leader of the world's only hyperpower. And ISIS seem to have failed to cease to exist.
