"adult only" holidays?

I know this is going to make me lookstupid buti'm going to ask anyway. i've been browsing the well known travel agents and a lot are advertising hotels as being adult only. i'm hoping this means no kids?? or would it be a bit more of a "specialised" type of thing? if you know what i mea

  • Generally it means over 16s or over 18s.
  • You need to read the small print, sometimes it means that the particular travel agent will say we only sell to adults but there is nothing to stop the hotel letting out rooms to people with children. I saw this myself last year.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

It's best to do thorough research about the hotel, read lots of reviews, google lots of possibilities, if there are 'specialised' things going on, they'll often get a mention.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

No, they're just holidays for adults. We're just back from one.

Now having said that and come to think of it, there were an awful lot of people wearing just leather thongs in the bar in the evenings but i just put it down to the warm weather.

We just keep ourselves to ourselves on holiday - i dont mind what goes on behind closed doors as long as no one rams it down my throat. :)

    Adults only = no kids.

    Which means
    • No kids running rampant around the hotel
    • No kids nearly drowning themselves because their parents arent watching themselves
    • No kids running around the restaurants
    • No kids handling the buffet food
    • No parents indulging their badly behaved snowflakes
    • No childrens entertainment to endure

Struggling to think of any negatives.... :D

Depends where you are going - In Germany and Holland, I have found it can mean the place is a knocking-shop or for those into somewhat esoteric pursuits.

Reading-up on the various review sites is indeed a very good idea. :)

I think if you're talking about Thomas Cook, Thomson etc, it is more likely to be age specific - TC say 'typically 16 years'.

    ^^^ this is good advice.
Not a lot of point booking adult only because you don't want kids running around if the hotel itself has sold rooms to families.

Thomson are strict with their Adult Only cruises. Their ships, their rules, so no danger of any other operator flogging Thomson cabins outside of the Adult Only rule.

Excellent vfm too.....but no doubt someone will try and prove me wrong.:)

But the OP is talking about hotels, not cruise ships so should be careful that she's not booking 'adult only' from a UK tour operator but will find lots of kids whose parents have booked with another TO or direct with the hotel.
