    Best I could do after a few tries was this:

    Well, after a year, you've spent £260, and won £40. That looks like a return of 6.50% However, you've got to remember that unlike savings accounts, you no long have your initial stake. That takes the equivilant savings percentage down to around -84.62%.

    Couldn't even spell "equivalent" :(

    I don't understand this....do 5 lines 2 times a week (ie 10 lines per week) for a year and it costs £260....do they know something I don't??

  • I can't do the lottery - it upsets me too much.

    When the jackpot gets to a huge amount, I go an buy *one* ticket. I then spend the rest of my week mentally sharing out my jackpot between my family and friends, and planning my spectacular exit from my jobs (usually features some computer smashing, boss bashing and an escape by helicopter).

    When I don't win, it feels like it's all been taken away from me and I get quite upset!

    Where does the money go?
    28p is given to Good causes;
    The national lottery do fund one hell of a lot of projects. I know in my area if lottery funding hadn't come through there would be no theatre, no facilities for young people and that would have led to a detriment in local society.

    Just to add my 2p worth, fuelled by looking at http://www.gordonsharpe.com/olympics.htm just now - Who decided that ALL the good causes cash raised by scratchcards should go the the Olympics ?

    I'm another one heavily involved with community work, and we struggle to get any funding, never mind the lottery. Seems that over the coming years our chances are going to be even less!

    What is this world coming to?
  • Hmm I think its a mugs game I'm afraid ... better off with that £1 in my pocket rather than risking it :)

    Lottery: very occasionally if I am feeling lucky! Strangely though I never am lucky.....:confused::D

    I think a £1 a week allows you to dream but any more than that is just a waste really.

    But, like others say, someone has to win!
