Diamond rings, why is it so difficult to buy one..

  • Why do you need diamond? After all, it is a very common stone.

I have several bespoke pieces. I have a tsavorite and diamond ring which is gorgeous and gets remarked upon, tsavorite is the colour of emerald but a lot clearer, I have a fire opal and diamond ring (not bespoke) which is very pretty and getting rather rare, in face I don't think I've seen fire opal in a jewellers for a while and it is a beautiful bright orange. My favourite bespoke piece is a pendant but could have been made into a ring, it is the most gorgeous Ceylon sapphire and diamond set in white gold, and the jeweller who made it for us really did not want to part with it, only problem is I really do not get the chance to show it off.

So, can you travel overseas and buy stones to get made into a bespoke piece? It is worth it, it feels so much nicer to know it is the only one :D

Of course, my main problem is that I tend to like different stones and if I see one while I am on holiday it tends to cost me rather a lot :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

I don't think laverderlady needs a diamond. In fact, I doubt anyone needs any jewellery.

Rather than 'common', I'd say diamonds are popular.
And Laverderlady wants a diamond, it's her choice.
Sometimes a girl just needs a best friend.
And who are we to argue with Marilyn Monroe? ;)

I too have (much more than) several bespoke pieces bought abroad, including sapphires of every colour but I could tell what the OP wanted.
    A diamond.
Well, quite possibly 3 looking at the design she's favouring.

I think you may be my sister!! :rotfl:

I could have written those posts that you did. And don't get me started on charity shopping.. its the only kind of shopping I do ha ha

I'm fairly certain I shall be going with the Samara James site as they seem the most competitive.

So i've now doubled my budget because as Pollycat says, I just need to justify it and its fine! :T:rotfl:
It sounds like a plan is coming together.

See you over on the thread. :)

Not had many bargains since Christmas, I've had a bout of flu since New Year and been ill again for the last week or more so not even been out of the house.
Might pop up to our local Tesco and take in a couple or three shops on the way.

Now, wouldn't it be fab if we could find a 2 carat, colour D, internally flawless (IF) diamond in Barnados. :rotfl:
  • It is absolutely true, it has to be a diamond. I don't really know why but I don't get excited when I see any other precious gem. Don't get my wrong I appreciate them when I see them in a shop window but I don't yearn to own them.

No I don't need one and I think thats where I was when I started this thread. Just trying to buy a cheap ring. But now after Pollycat told me its ok to spend heaps, thats what I plan to do. :)

And heres the update... Hubby and I are travelling down to Hatton Garden to chose a ring and are going to make a day of it!

But heres the thing, now I know I'm going to get a proper certificated ring, from a proper diamond shop, I feel great! That funny uneasiness in my stomach is gone so I know i'm doing the right thing.

Honestly writing this thread helped me get my self in order :)

    WOW!
I didn't see that coming, Lavenderlady.

    But what a lovely idea.

Have a fab day & I hope you find the ring of your dreams.

(And I hope your OH isn't angry with me for telling you "it's ok to spend heaps" - did I really say that? ;))

I have my ring. Its beautiful and it has a GIA certificate so I know all about it.

I feel really happy and I did spend more than my original budget (Thanks for helping me justify that Pollycat) :T

I will look at it for a very long time and admire it!

    Thanks again :)

My weakness among others are diamonds. Love them and am fortunate to have a few nice pieces.

You can spend days and days looking at quality, cut, etc but ultimately you have to love it. The style, the fit, how it makes you feel.

When my son was born my OH took me to a shop where the staff had been told to remove the price tag and instead let me pick on the ring itself, not the cut or clarity or carat. Instead just the ring.

Equally when my daughter was born same again but just a solitaire necklace. They still make me feel special.

As it happens I still do not know the price and I honestly don't care I love them and they still look as good today as they did when I got them.

I really hope that you find the perfect ring and that you will celebrate another 30 years. Good luck.
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A
  • What a lovely way to pick your ring, well done to OH for the idea. I was so worried about spending money on a luxury and felt like I had to look at the price. I wish I had asked hubby to do the same as yours did.

Another 30 years? I told hubby that we had to do another 85 years as I have lots of things that need fixing and he takes a while to get around to them :rotfl:

I wouldn't change him for the world though :)

I'm so pleased you got the ring you wanted, Lavenderlady.

It was worth all the looking around as it's such an important purchase. :)
