Boiler Install - Wired Thermostat Being Replaced with Wireless

Hi

I am getting a new boiler installed. I currently have a wired thermostat in the living room some distance from the boiler.

The engineer proposes installing a wireless thermostat for the new boiler.

Would you expect the engineer to remove the existing wired thermostat, or simply leave it on the wall?

The wireless thermostat is smaller than the wired one stuck to the wall, and wouldn't even fill the space left without plastering etc.

I have a wireless thermostat which is powered via a transformer. My installer removed the old thermostat and used the old wiring to provide power to the new transformer/thermostat. That said, it depends on what type of thermostat that he intends to fit.

I have left both my old timer and thermostat on the wall but both are disconnected. I will remove them next time we decorate.

The advantage of a wireless thermostat is you can move it from room to room. At the moment, when your living room is up to temperature, the heating goes off. Now you can move the thermostat to another room and get that room to the temperature you need.

For instance if you don't use the living room in the morning, you can turn down the radiators in that room and have, say, your bedroom controlling the Central heating.

Our old thermostat was on the wall in the hall and the wireless one works off a box whose cable goes into the boiler casing then another (?) comes from the casing to a plug socket, near the boiler.


The installers left the old box in the hall, as they said it would leave a hole in the plasterboard and suggested leaving it until we redecorate.


The wireless one is much better, as you can use it to concentrate on the room of your choice. We prefer to regulate the living room rather than the hall.
