policy premium not paid through my wage, am I liable?

Last year Aug 2016 I started a personal health insurance policy though my work, filled in all the forms etc, received confirmation of the policy and have since claimed against it for new glasses and dental bills etc. I have received an email saying they have not received any premiums as my work did not receive a copy of my form. So now they are asking for the £108 premium which has not been deducted, and obviously asking if I want to continue the policy. What are my rights as this is not my mistake? do I legally have to pay these missed premiums? or could I cut and run? Anyone know? Thank you for reading!

Yes, you have to pay. Why did you not question when a deduction was not made from your wages?

If you didn't pay the premiums then you still owe them - especially as you've made claims on the policy. The error may not have been yours, but presumably you received the money that should have gone towards your premiums in your paycheque.

Similarly if your electricity bill doesn't get paid on time because on an error on your bank's part, it doesn't mean that you become entitled to free electricity.

If paying £108 all at once is a problem for you, ask if they'll accept it in instalments.

I never noticed it wasn't going out, I have checked now and yes they haven't! When I claim I don't get it paid through my wage I get it straight into my bank. Just so fustrating as now I'll have 6 month of double paying, through no fault of my own!

But you've had an interest free loan totalling £108 over the last 6 months, and if you don't have that money it's because you've spent it. The fault that lies with you is in not checking your pay slip at any point over that time. If they are allowing you to pay over 6 months I think that is an excellent result for you rather than something to complain about.

Ask them if they will forgo the missing premiums if you repay them the cost of the dental bills and new glasses........

It is partly your fault - you haven't checked your account properly. Who knows what else you've missed, either payments not made, not received or made without authorisation ? I don't recommend that method of managing your money.

Another thought - is this classified by your employer as Benefit in Kind for tax purposes ?

At the end of the six months of double paying, you wont be any worse off financially.

More importantly, can you please tell me who covers dental bills for £108!?
