UPVC Front Door Repair and Reinstall

Hi
Our UPVC front door cill/external step has recently been damaged by some buildings works. The builders said they would get someone to replace it but they would need to take out the door , replace the cill and then reinstall the door.
Can someone familiar with doors please tell me if
- It is a straightforward job ? Removing the door, replacing the cill and reinstall the door without damaging the door or surroundings
- Do we need to FENSA registered installer in this case , since it is effectively reinstalling of the door. Would it affect our FENSA warranty or FENSA certificate if done by someone not registered?
Thanks!
Alex

I could be wrong on this, but I would have thought to replace the cill properly, both the door and the frame would need to be removed. The cill normally has a small upstand/lip at the back and the frame sits on top of this. The cill should be screwed into the frame. Not sure you can easily repair this without taking out the whole frame, which makes it a bigger job.
No need to worry about building regs or a FENSA cert, its a repair not a replacement.0 -
Hi CyclingProgrammer, thanks for the feedback. Yes I was told that both the door and the frame needs to be removed (sorry for not making this clear). Not sure how it is going to be done but the frame probably need to be chiseled out from the wall ? If it is a complex job, we are worried the door is damaged when removed or badly reinstalled by someone not qualified (as opposed to door installation specialists)0

Its not complex but it should be done by somebody who knows what they are doing. Removing the door is easy, removing the frame should be a case of removing the fixings and then cutting it out as its normally also held in place with expanding foam and should also be sealed around the outside.
After that it should be refitted as if it was a new installation - the opening should be cleaned up of any bits of silicone and foam, put back into place, squared, fixed into place, the gaps around the outside re-foamed and then the door re-hung. It should then be properly siliconed around the outside of the frame and any trim fixed back in place internally and externally. There may be some cosmetic repairs that need doing internally although any plastic trim should cover this if they are careful.0 -
Could be that there is some bedding under the cill which would mean just releasing the cill and fitting fixing and resealing the new one rather than the aboveif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0
