The Big Insurance Company Scam - the companies themselves

In Nov 2016 I was involved in an accident. Liability was disputed at the scene however when the insurers (both companies involved) received in-car dash cam footage from me, the third party insurers accepted liability. This was communicated to me by my insurance company.

Now its time for renewal. My documents came through at almost double last years premium so I checked all the details and found that they had recorded an at fault claim stating I had hit a third party driver. So I contacted the insurance company and asked them politely to amend this error. They informed me that they would, however, this would still need to be declared as an at fault claim. Naturally I questioned this and was told that because they hadn't recovered the costs, the case is still open and it would still be an at fault claim until they did so. Why am I being penalised for this? Surely the recovery of costs is down to them!

Anyway, I went away and got some quotes from comparison websites and found that I could get a better price. I completed quotes for both fault and non-fault claims. The prices of each were better that the renewal quote my insurance company had given me but they were the ones who gave me the better quotes on the comparison websites so I called again.

I asked that they honour the non-fault claim price when they eventually get the costs back but they said they couldn't do that. I informed them that the reason I wanted this is so that I knew how much of a refund I would get back as I pay my insurance annually. They reiterated that they couldn't do that as it included other things such as comparison websites discounts etc. I then asked them to give me the better rate for the at-fault claim included. They immediately agreed. So how can they agree one but not the other so that I knew what sort of refund I would get back I asked. That's not how it works. I needed to submit true information. I said that I did that, it was them who were not. I also said that they had me over a barrel because not only do I lose out because of this, but my wife also has me as a named driver and this would affect her insurance too. (Yes, I got quotes for hers too and sure enough she is being penalised!)
So, not only do I lose out because of their inaccurate process, I also lose out because of their statistical analysis of expecting me to make another claim (read lots about this in the last day or so) and they also won't take any action against the third party insurers to reclaim any losses incurred as a result of the increased insurance premiums.

So why do we pay insurance (apart from the obvious legal reasons)? We all know that insurance is an easy scam target so how does the government let them get away with legalised fraud???

When they recover their costs your no claims will be reinstated. All normal.

And often its better to stick with the current insurer for the renewal to help get your money back to the correct premium.

I dont see the fraud here. You had an accident and its an at fault meaning your insurer paid for the repairs. It does not mean you were at fault for the accident.

If a tree fell on your car whilst parked and you claimed it would be an at fault incident unless they could claim their money back.

Your wifes policy will be penalised whether your at fault or not. You had an c=incident which makes you a higher risk.
