I get my state pension next year....

.....and, according to the telly, I'm going to be rich. Can't wait.:D

It was a tongue in cheek poke at today's ( now yesterday's) news about pensioners now being better off than young people. It showed a couple of oldies playing golf, working out, down the caff etc.
Of course, it failed to mention such cases as you highlighted.

  • Banking section?
  • Banking section?
Budgeting and banking, actually ;) I thought you'd know that after nearly 1800 posts.

And is anybody surprised? Far easier to stir up discontent?

Indeed - a lot of them trying to lead the blind...

You seem to have a 'thing' about 'number of posts'. Why not work out your rate of posts since joining compared to others in some of your spare time?

    ;)

I don't have any spare time, that's why I don't waste what little I do have trying to police the boards.:)

This is another of those "factual" reports that puts every person it refers to, in the same box. The Beeb is getting to be as bad as the worst tabloids at doing this.

Whatever financial resources we have managed to put together as a married couple in our 8th decade, is the result of b***dy hard work and saving, never buying what we could not afford and making do with less than we could afford. The result is that we are currently solvent, but how long that may last is anyone's guess. This whole business of making generational comparisons is just wrong: we use any spare cash we might have to help our two and their 4 if they need it. We had a windfall some years ago and it helped us set up Junior ISA's for all 4 grandchildren, 3 of whom have been helped into work and study by that. It assisted the eldest to find a job and a flat. Meanwhile, sensational reports like this make some younger sections of the poulation look upon our age group with envy and dislike. How daft is that?
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Exactly. The trouble is, (some) people listen to this crud and form an opinion based upon it. They don't bother/haven't got the time to actually research the facts behind it. The BBC is trusted implicitly by people of a certain age, and they should realise this and act accordingly.

What is the 'certain age' ?

    I am 68 and don't trust them.
