Hi,

I am after some advise.

My grandad is 95 year old, he currently has all his gas/electric/phone by direct debit from SSE.

He is getting charged silly prices on a quarterly basis got all 3, now i am talking £400+ for gas which he hardly uses any other than in winter.

His telephone bill is £80 plus when he has made 20 calls and thats it in 3 months.

Now i am going to get these looked at but what advise i need is, is there any way of getting a plan put in for people like this that automatically puts them on the best tariff, because the tariff for electric and gas run out about 15 years ago.

Shouldnt this be a standard thing for all OAP's. Now i am not saying all OAP's are incapable of looking after themselves and dealing with it but there are a lot out there who have their children deal with payments etc. Surely all tariffs should roll over onto a new tariff that is ideal.

Also is there anyway or any chance of me compplaining and getting some money back for him on all this, he is in the energyplus argos account which would entitle him to payments on argos products.

Tarrif ends then continual supply moves to the more expensive standard tariff and that applies to all ages .

Have you checked meter readings for the gas .
Likewise the phone .
Pity nobody got a handle on this 15 years ago .


At what point does an OAP become incompetent and need state intervention on bills ??. Many are perfectly capable at 96 some not capable at 66 .

I took control of my MIL' s years ago at her request - been with E.on, Ovo etc . She gives me a bottle of scotch in return.

Look out for house/ contents insurance as well. Doing a claim for her now - she didn't want to claim as her premiums would go up. She's 96.
