Refund rights

Hi, a bit of a long running dispute but now I'm stumped. In October 2016 after an online purchase ( paid by bank transfer) failed to arrive, I asked for a refund. Eventually the shop posted (royal mail) a cheque which also failed to arrive. This was signed for by someone with a non recognisable scribble, but not at the address given to the shop. Now the shop's accounts dept say they won't cancel the missing cheque and refund me by bank transfer, and have done all they can do. What steps can I take? The price of the goods were £65.
thanks for any advice,
Donny

Letter Before Action giving them 14 days to refund by bank transfer or otherwise respond, followed by a court claim (MCOL) if they don't refund?0

Can you put that all in layman terms, whats a letter before action? and whats mcol?
I was looking at the info for small claims court, but is it worth it for £65?0 -

Google is your friend.
There's a sample LBA, and other good advice, in on the CAB website.
MCOL stands for Money Claim Online.
It might be a good idea to read MSE's Small Claims Court guide too.
p.s. have you seen MSE's How to Complain article?0 -

Whether it's worth it is up to you to decide.0 -

Sending them a letter before action will cost you a few minutes of your time and the price of a stamp. Hopefully it would be sufficient to prompt them to refund you without you needing to take them to court.
If they have social media accounts that might also be a route to focusing their attention - few companies like to be made to look bad in view of other customers/potential customers.0 -
Thanks for all the help everyone. I posted a letter before action and had my refund to the bank within 2 weeks. I did have to promise not to cash the missing cheque if it ever arrived, and prove my bank account was actually mine but I got my cash back.
woohoo! 5 months of messing about sorted quickly.0
